Sales of laptops have once again taken a long lead over desktop computers, according to the latest market figures. Total computer sales in Australia during the April-June period grew by 2.7 per cent over the same period last year, says industry analyst firm Gartner, representing 1.1 million units sold. Most of that action was enjoyed by notebooks, which surged ahead by 17.5 per cent over the same time last year, while desktop sales slumped by 4.3 per cent. It seems people continue to ditch their ageing desktop for a notebook when it's time to update. This is common in homes that have upgraded to broadband internet and set up a wireless network to share the signal around the house.
